Royal Lytham Golf Club
Royal Lytham Golf Club is one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Founded in 1886, it is situated in the lovely coastal resort of St. Annes and was the venue for the 2012 BRITISH OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. Royal Lytham has been the proud host of Ten BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS, two Ryder Cups and many other major tournaments including being host to the Walker Cup in 2015.
The golf course is conveniently accessible from all the main Northern England motorway networks and when on your Southport golf holidays it is about a 50 minute drive from your Southport Hotel.
Although it is still a fair distance from the actual sea, Royal Lytham is still close enough for the coastal winds to have an affect on the golfer who is not comfortable playing in windy conditions. It has been described by one eminent golf journalist as "a beast of a course, but just a beast" Royal Lytham golf course has remained mostly in its original layout with just a few improvements to the course over the last 100 years or so, thus adding to the history and tradition of this premier golf course.
