Golf Southport is delighted to introduce Hillside Golf Club as a course worthy of serious consideration on your golf holidays in Southport.
Often described as one of the best courses never to have hosted the British Open, Hillside is a must play course for any avid golfer. Situated right alongside it's illustrious neighbour Royal Birkdale it is a serious test of golf and is also used as a British Open Qualifier. Right from the very first tee you will be tested, as a wayward drive too far left will put your shot on to the railway line which runs between Liverpool and Southport. Although it requires concentration and accuracy off the tees it is also a very fair course with a lot of wide fairways, suitable for golfers of most handicaps.
It is a mixture of both parkland and links, and on the 11th tee the views towards both Royal Birkdale to the right and Southport and Ainsdale to the left are stunning. Greg Norman once described the back nine holes as being the best back nine golfing holes in Europe.
On the par 3 tenth hole, depending on the weather you can play anything from an eight iron to a wood and any shot to the left or right of the hole will put you in woods which are really difficult to recover from. In Medal play this hole can be a "card wrecker" so accuracy is a must.
All the holes have something different to offer and on your walk round the course, alongside the stunning views, the course is also alive to various forms of wildlife.
After your round why not enjoy the surroundings of the recently renovated clubhouse where you will be assured of a very warm welcome from both the friendly bar staff and members.

Tony Byrne - Party of 8 golfers from Southern Ireland
"We were all delighted with the trip. Used restaurant Auberge a couple of times and liked it. We also met John Smith in the bar of the hotel and we all had lots of his ale. :) Loved the golf. Asked one of the lads if he would drop a course in order to include S&A and he said no - we should play four days the next time. All in all a wonderful trip."
Pat Neville
"Great trip, thank you for everything. Hotel was great too."
Bali Singh
"Just to say the whole thing from start to finish was just exceptional so thanks again for all your help. From sunstroke potential at Ormskirk to lashing rain and 60mph gusts of wind at Hesketh it was the true links experience :-) The Hotel was spot on, the rooms were comfortable, breakfast excellent and staff very friendly. We were made to feel incredibly welcome everywhere we went."
